4 Part Series: Getting Ready for a Special Event

Part One: Skincare

The first step to ensuring a perfect homecoming is making sure your skin is healthy and glowing. To do so, I suggest a mask 5 days before the big event. But first, it's important to make sure you don't over wash/exfoliate your face because that can actually lead to more breakouts and we sure as hell don't want that. My all time favorite mask is from Philosophy's Purity. You can get it online or from Sephora. It's specifically designed to draw out impurities and clean your pores. You can use the mask all over your face or you can spot treat specific areas of your face where you are experiencing problems. I usually do this a couple of times a week. When taking off the mask, I use a washcloth and heat it up with hot water. This will help open up your pores and help the mask do its magic.

If you don't have time to go to the store and get Purity. Here are 2 great face masks with ingredients from your kitchen:

Oatmeal Face Mask:

  • 1/3 cup of oatmeal

  • 1/2 cup of hot water

  • 2 tablespoons plain yogurt

  • 2 tablespoons honey

  • 1 small egg white

Combine the hot water with the oatmeal first, mix well and let it settle for 2-3 minutes. Then combine the yogurt, honey and egg white. Apply a thin layer to your face and then let it sit for 10 - 15 minutes. Then rinse with warm water.

Egg Facial:

  • 1 egg

  • Lemon

  • honey

Grab an egg from the fridge (separate the egg yolk from egg white) If you have dry skin that needs moisturizing use the yolk. Oily skin takes egg white and you can add a bit of lemon or honey. For normal skin use the entire egg. Apply to skin, wait 30 minutes and then rinse off with warm water.
